 Lexicon Pharmaceuticals is currently searching for a highly collaborative, knowledgeable and detail oriented Senior Accountant for our Woodlands office. This position will be a hybrid role working at least several days on site in our office. 

 Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant is a critical member of the Accounting and Finance team and will be primarily responsible for the performance of general accounting duties in accordance with GAAP and involved in accounting processes that have impact across the Company.  This position will work primarily with other accounting department personnel but will also collaborate with different levels of management as well as third party service providers as needed.

 Key Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

  • Accounting Close – Prepare monthly journal entries and schedules and gather audit documentation as needed for external/SOX audit across areas including cash, prepaids, legal accruals, debt, allocations, etc.
  • Daily Cash – Track daily cash and record necessary journal entries
  • Account reconciliations – Prepare and ensure completeness of account reconciliations for G/L accounts monthly 
  • Run and prepare monthly reports (e.g. trial balance, variance reports, flash report, etc.)
  • Electronic binders – Ensure that all required documents/checklists/support are maintained and evidence of review are electronically filed on a monthly basis with appropriate mgmt. review and sign-offs
  • SEC disclosure support – Prepare certain SEC disclosures (e.g. investments)
  • Close calendar – Monitor progress against the monthly close calendar
  • Special projects – as needed

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related major is required
  • Three to five years of experience in public accounting or working in an accounting/finance role within a public company 
  • Excellent work habits, work ethic, communication, resourcefulness and interpersonal skills
  • Strong detail orientation and analytical skills 
  • Experience with JDE or other large accounting system is required 
  • Moderate Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, filters, etc.)
  • CPA certification is a plus
