Position Summary/objective: 

This is a local organizational leadership role whose primary purpose is to oversee the growth and maturation of the Immatics US site, setting up a local culture of operational excellence that is fit for purpose, as part of the HOU site leadership team, and embedded in the global company. This position will foster the creation of a high-quality, responsive, customer service-oriented and safe work environment while ensuring compliance with the organizations’ performance standards and other applicable federal and state requirements. In addition to the site wide functions mentioned above, this position is also overseeing the day-to-day administrative and facility operations.

Essential functions:

Managerial function is the number one priority at Immatics for all people leaders. As you are responsible for management, development, growth, and coaching of team members, this is your most important duty at Immatics.

  • Act as a role model for team members with respect to earning their trust by your own attendance, keeping your word, personal behaviors, transparent/frank communication, and execution of personal assignments.  
  • Hire team members that will fit the job, company culture and team dynamics. 
  • Distribute work appropriately among team members. 
  • Organize and manage team members time/schedules and assignments, keep track that team members are utilizing their time in meaningful assignments that will move the company forward. 
  • Communicate frequently and regularly with team members assuring they have the information and tools to perform their functions. 
  • Resolve conflict between team members if any arises – be an active listener of your team members.  
  • Set goals, measure achievement progress, and assist team members in successful execution of their / team goals as well as coach and help develop team members into higher roles at Immatics if they so desire.  
  • Provide regular, meaningful (honest but emphatic) performance feedback, expertise, and coaching (5:1 positive to negative ratio) that will help team members grow and develop. Turn feedback into coaching moments and show your willingness to be a partner in team members career development at Immatics.  
  • Reward and give credit to team members when they so deserve – publicly and privately. 

Site Leader Essential Functions include 

  • As part of the US site leadership team 
  • Lead the US site leadership team. 
  • Execute strategic and growth initiatives to ensure effective implementation, governance, communication and change management. 
  • Oversee the growth and maturation of the Immatics US site, setting up a local culture of operational excellence that is fit for purpose, which is embedded in the global company.  
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence where employees strive for continuous improvement, feel respected, supported in speaking up and are personally invested in the success of themselves and the organization.  
  • Represent Immatics at internal meetings in Houston and Immatics US at external meetings. 
  • In partnership with relevant peers and stakeholders, develop and improve processes that support the organization in an efficient and effective manner.  

Administrative essential functions include:  

  • Oversee all administrative operations of the US sites and ensure the smooth running of all related activities.   
  • Manage administrative staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.   
  • Oversee the planning and execution of events, such as company meetings, conferences, retreats, Board meetings, site meetings and team-building activities.   
  • Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.   
  • Oversee administrative budgets and ensure that expenses are within budgetary constraints.  
  • Oversee all organizational insurance policies, negotiate renewals with brokers and keep abreast of policies. 

Operations essential functions include:  

  • Responsible for strategic planning and oversight of all facility budling related activities, including the development and implementation of technical operations strategy, and identification of opportunities for continuous process improvement and resources allocation.   
  • Forecast activities and communicate project status to senior management. Provides clear communication of the status and alerts senior management of potential issues or risks and mitigation measures.  
  • Ensure that facilities and operations comply with applicable regulations, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), CLIA, and environmental standards. This involves conducting regular inspections, addressing safety concerns, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining documentation.  
  • Develop and manage the budget, including capital expenditures, staffing, and operational expenses.  Optimize resource allocation, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensure efficient resource utilization. Maintain and manage all service agreements and maintenance operation contracts providing standardization, cost driven improvements, and sustainable resources for operational support.  
  • Responsible for managing the operations team, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure that all employees are working effectively and efficiently.  
  • In collaboration with other departments leads for R&D, quality assurance, quality control, regulatory affairs, manufacturing and commercialization, implement infrastructure and equipment to support demands of growth.  
  • Oversee compliance with operational and environmental safety regulations and continuously enhancing safety performance along with the Business Continuity Plan. 

Secondary functions: 

  • Offer expertise and service related to the US company facilities, including optimization of space and maximizing the day-to-day operational efficiencies.  
  • Coordinate corporate activities for Immatics US.  
  • Collaborate with departmental peers to streamline, standardize, and improve efficiencies of the organization’s business and administrative operations; collaborating with key stakeholders, notably CMC, Quality, Supply Chain, HR, IT, Accounting and Controlling.  
  • Host open office hours/quarterly community meetings to provide opportunities to share ideas for process improvement and resolving specific identified challenges allowing collaboration between departments to better anticipate issued and demands and work to provide logical, innovative, and creative solutions.  
  • Develop new partnerships and expand relationships with current strategic partners within the regional biotech ecosystem.   
  • Participate in developing corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance goals and best practices under the guidance of the COO and with input from relevant business areas.

Work environment: 

This position works regularly in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels and regularly uses phone, computer and office supplies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to a lab environment with moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, pathogens, and toxic or caustic chemicals. 

Physical demands: 

  • Communicating Verbally – expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to others to convey detailed spoken instructions or other workers accurately, loudly or quickly. 
  • Hearing – the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds one-on-one, group or conference, telephone, and other sounds. 
  • Keyboarding – entering data or text into a computer or other machine by means of a keyboard. Devices include a traditional keyboard, 10 key-pad, touch screens and others.  
  • Lifting – raising or lowering an object (up to 25 lbs) from one level to another (includes upward pulling). Carrying is to transport an object – usually by holding it in the hands or arms but may occur on the shoulder.

Travel required:  

Does require occasional travelling domestically as needed. Requires international travel approx. twice per year to the German sites.   

 Required education and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.  
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible business management experience.  
  • Previous significant leadership in fast-growing organizations, ideally also as Site Head experience with successful track record. 

 Preferred education and experience: 

  • Master’s degree or higher in Business, Public Administration, or related discipline.  
  • Previous business experience in biotech/pharma industry is highly valuable. 
  • Experience in the management and administration of operations or programs in the Biotech business environment.
