2017 Legislative Outlook: What Lies Ahead for The Texas Life Science Industry
It’s important for the Houston life science community to remain engaged and participate in the legislative process. With the 2016 election behind us, it will be time to focus on the upcoming 2017 Texas legislative session and what lies ahead for the state – and be prepared to move through the new landscape. We will cover topics and trends that will undoubtedly impact your company directly, whether it be medical device, therapeutics, or research institution.
Leading the discussion will be Tom Kowalski, President & CEO of the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute (THBI). THBI is the Texas policy voice for the life science industry. The state of Texas has made cancer a top priority, as evidenced by the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas program. CPRIT is a major legislative initiative, one which Houston’s life science community and academic institutions have greatly benefited from. Cam Scott, Senior Director of Texas Government Relations at the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, will share his insight into the challenges and any upcoming hurdles in 2017. He will also discuss ways that our community can get more involved.
